Performer announcement: Ana-Marija Markovina

Henselfest will feature a performace by pianist Ana-Marija Markovina!

Ana-Marija Markovina is one of the most distinguished pianists of her generation. Born in Croatia and raised in Germany, she studied in Detmold, Weimar, and Berlin, where she was influenced by Vitalij Margulis, Anatol Ugorski, and Paul Badura-Skoda.

She gained international recognition in particular through her complete recordings, including the piano works of C.P.E. Bach, Anton Bruckner, Anton Urspruch, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. Her recording of C.P.E. Bach’s complete piano works was awarded the German Record Critics’ Prize.

A special focus of her current musical work is Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. Following her highly acclaimed 12-CD box set of all the piano works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Markovina is now concentrating on the compositions of his sister. Volume 1 of her recording of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel’s piano works was released in the spring of 2026 by Hänssler Classic; Volume 2 is currently in progress. With this long-term project, Markovina is providing important impetus for the rediscovery of an extraordinary composer and pianist.

In addition to her concert and recording activities, Markovina conducts research on the psychology of music and interpretation. In 2023, she earned her doctorate summa cum laude from the Hamburg University of Music and Theater.
