San Francisco-based composer Patricia Wallinga connects audiences with unheard stories, voices, and ideas of the modern world. Her work has been called "quite powerful" (Bloomington Herald-Times) and "damn brilliant" (conductor and composer Eric Whitacre). She also advocates extensively online for equality and modernity in the classical music community.
Wallinga is known for her 2023 piano concerto reimagining of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel's Sonata in G Minor, in collaboration with pianist Sharon Su. The concerto was premiered in June 2023 with the Ballets Russes Arts Initiative in Boston, MA.
Wallinga holds degrees in composition from Indiana University and San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In her spare time, she sings with the International Orange Chorale of San Francisco, goes on weird little adventures with her sister, and has strong opinions on local burritos.
